Ability Fair Trade Village (AFTV) is a not-for-profit fair-trade social enterprise registered in Cambodia. Our aim is to assist people with disabilities living in Siem Reap to develop sustainable livelihoods and to further a culture of access and inclusion in the community as discrimination is still a significant problem in Cambodia.
Prior to COVID, our retail shop (trading as Genevieve's Fair Trade Village) offered a relaxed and pressure-free shopping experience where international tourists and the local community could buy Khmer artwork, photography, jewellery, accessories, clothing and carvings made by local artisans. It provided the opportunity for local people to learn and produce handcrafted products to help them earn a fair and sustainable income. We also offered child-friendly workshops where you could learn from a local artisan how to make your own handmade paper, notebook or a piece of jewellery. We closed the retail shop in March 2020 when international borders around the world closed due to COVID. We hope to restart this enterprise, or something similar in the future. In April 2020 we started the Siem Reap Food Bank project and our main focus was helping provide food security to our artisans and their families. In 2023 our focus is once more on developing pathways for artisans with disabilities to earn a sustainable income. In June 2023 Naret, the Director of Ability Fair Trade Village formed a partnership with Phare Circus to sell some of the AFTV artisan's products at the Phare Circus Boutique in Siem Reap. When you visit the circus be sure to pursue the wonderful items available for sale in the shop! Naret is currently communicating with other organisations to secure more retail outlets for the artisans products. More news soon.... |
